Debian comes with Gnome standard in my experience, unless you specifically download the KDE or XFCE packages (or the other X number of desktops). Of course, you can install all of them as soon as you boot into the desktop and switch to them almost on the fly.
Gnome+Compiz on Debian Squeeze is my poison of choice.
