And they still move ahead when others don't and are stuck where they are.
Living the SANFRAN bay area, my vacations become an exercise in escaping from a natural disaster. I actually have a planned route to the high mountains and use this to update any changes. Vacation is done without any contact with the outside, no cell phone or internet. I count the underpass/overpasses that may be damaged or impassable in an earthquake and planned routes around them. Also it gives me a chance to determine what may be missing from my prepared boxes and judge how long certain types of battery powered devices may last with current supplies. I guess you could say I'm still working but for a different boss - myself and family.
I'm really thinking about those "Power Naps." I want to know the secret. People say they should be no more than 10 minutes long. I don't fall asleep in 10 minutes so if I restrict it I don't get a nap at all.
So what is the secret to an effective power nap? How do you train yourself to sleep on command?

You could always try something like Pzizz, a self-hypnosis set to music program designed to help you relax and fall asleep for a predetermined time, then resurface on cue, alert. If nothing else, the music is soothing.
I have a similar issue in that when i sleep, i sleep entirely too deep, so even if i were to fall asleep immediately, by 10 minutes i wake up groggy (usually)
As an alternative to actual "napping", I suggest a meditation session. Basically, find a spot to be left alone, (a small telco closet suits fine!), close your eyes and try any number of meditative strategies, whether the om or visualization techniques. Takes some practice, but I've found on the few occasions I do it it helps.

I find a short walk around the block does me the most good...getting some fresh air, stretching the legs, and listening to some music.
