I work for an engineering firm where we often have to deal with vendor drawings being produced on AutoCAD exported as PDF files and issued for our review. If an engineer wants to suggest a revision to the design, being able to convert back to AutoCAD so that a CAD technician can work on a copy of the parent drawing is a great time saver. If we have to get the vendor to resubmit in DWG or DXF we sometimes lose a couple of days. At our inside billing rate one hour saved would pay for the cost of A2E. Any software that can do this will find its way into every engineering office that works with DWG or DXF files.

If you're doing all of that why not create PDF Forms in the first place? It's been built into Acrobat and the PDF specification for quite a while. No conversions, no editing of other parts, just fill in the blank spaces with the appropriate data.If it is done that way so someone can paste a scanned copy of their signature you are going down the wrong track. That just opens up the system to abuse and fraud.

Back in the mid 1980s the organisation I worked for switched to a personnel management program called Nomad where all the leave applications etc were done on the computer and sent around as emails. Each person had a simple digital signature file which they attached to the document and the system filed it all. I know of three other organisations that were using the system during the mid 1990s and there was also a purchasing program around that did the same thing. There are many free digital signature programs around too.In the above cases the organisations used the programs they did as they wanted to reduce the paperwork and they wanted something that everyone could easily use as they weren't techs. The need to convert from PDF to word and back again requires a more tech savvy user than just attaching a digital signature to a basic word or excel form or an email does.edit typo
