It's a very usefull tool, but it depends from the damage on the hard drive.

Sometimes I've used Filerecovery, Paragon Hard Disk Manager Pro or conecting the unredeable hard drive and booting from a Linux partition using SuSe or Red Hat, wich allow me to read the drive. But I will use ZAR to have my own experience recovering data from unredeable hard drives.
