I do have to agree with you on the "Protestant Work Ethic"....and I wouldn't just say that's a US thing...I see it here in Canada also.

"Workaholic managers I have known typically don't expect the same kind of commitment from staff or peers"....I also agree with you here....but....they are also usually the ones watching to see who is leaving "exactly" at 5 PM....etc.
