Why not Ian Holm? He was a perfect Bilbo. Rowan Atkinson is a buffoon: he will surely destroy any and all seriousness the film hopes to acheive.Guillermo DelToro is a brilliant and innovative filmmaker. I think he will bring a depth to the story visually and emotionally.

If The Hobbit stays close to the original story, AND is as high a quality as the LotR movies were, this is DEFINITELY a big deal; I'll see them in the theater, and buy the "Deluxe Edition DVD" for both when they come out.If they AREN'T high quality... Redbox, here I come!

My teenaged kids and I watch the three LOTR movies back to back to back around Christmas every year. We watch the extended versions, starting around 9:30 in the morning, and finishing about midnight, depending on how long it takes to get the pizza delivered. Breakfast is typically fried tomatoes, nice crispy bacon...we can't bring ouselves to have a brace of conies for supper, although fish and chips would be an option. So, we're very happy about The Hobbit.I understand that Ian Holm won't be back, but I sure hope Andy Serkis is...he was one great gollum.

Since I survived quite nicely watching the first one on TV and not seeing the second or third at all, I'll be saving my money on this one too.For some reason I never got into Tolkien. Maybe it was the content, maybe it was his style. Whatever it was (or is), I've started The Hobbit at least four times in my life and never got past the first forty or fifty pages. The LOTR movie left me cold; pretty, but I just didn't care whether any of the characters lived, died, or were tax audited.
