Unused vacation time?
If my current employer balks at paying me my unused vacation time, I get the privilege of handing over that money to a lawyer instead of me and getting an industry black eye as a malcontent(unless the settlement is HUGE). No joy in that approach. Best advice in leaving a job is (and I quote my mom here) " Just because they are acting like jerks doesn't mean you have to stoop to their level to even the playing field". Notice is important because even though there are many people with my skill set that could replace me, there's only me with the corporate knowledge to pass on to my replacement without him/her having to learn that on their own. If you give proper notice and your employer chooses to ignore that benefit, well so be it. At least you tried to play fair. Contrary to this opinion (since I'm on very good terms with my current employer), if they are constantly trying to screw you, the temptation to screw them back would occupy much of my free time plotting and scheming.
