Oh I can live with that appreciation.
America farting, and europe holding it's nose has been going on for a while.
My appreciation of US influence in the employment market has a slightky different emphasis though.
We've always had a split in benefits.
The more valuable the business feels you have the greater the benefits.
I've had jobs with a three month notice period for intance. I've had others that were effectively at will, no more work is no more job.
Then there's salaried vs hourly paid
Temping through an agency versus full time
Part time versus full time
Even age based stuff whether it's minimum wage or pay/benefits based on longevity.

What I see happening, particulary in IT, is an underlying strategy from commercial interests to widen the bottom tier in the employment hierarchy. I'm very reluctant to blame that on the US, greed is universal.
