Sure, you still have to update them. There's a lot of hype no doubt. But as a Mac convert of 18 months now, the honest truth is that I spend almost no time debugging PC-style security issues and malware, don't burn countless CPU cycles running all this junk, performance is high and stays high (after 18 months, PCs always slow down), and my computer has now become a tool serving me instead of the other way around.
