8 GB?? Not before the first IBM PC
Even an 8 MB drive of the size you remember would have been a technical marvel. I have a disk platter from an old IBM Drive (when they looked like a stack of LP records) and the drive itself was about 2 feet square and 3.5 feet tall. That platter contained 360K. At one major company I worked for their first "mainframe" had 32K of RAM. And, yes, I AM an old codger. I wrote my first program in 1966.
