Coming from a windows background, always liked to be able to browse the web with my file manager once in a while (especially if the other browser wasn't starting for some reason) (unfortuately that feature has been removed since ie7)also like the tabbed feature in PCmanfm; and the ability to open current folder as root; allowing me to perform superuser actions directly. also like to be able to type my path into the address bar

For simple file management tasks in Linux, I really like emelFM2 . It's a canonical file manager based on GTK+ and, therefore, will run on almost any Linux GUI. Likewise, they provide packages for many Linux distributions. Some of the great features of emelFM2 are:- Built-in text editor- Bookmarks and history lists- Thumbnails for graphics files- Small size and very responsive even on older hardwareEnjoy!

In Windows I grew to really like PowerDesk Pro. One of the features is the ability to copy the file names, with or without the full path name, and then paste the file names in any kind of document. Dolphin does not have this feature, as far as I can tell. GNOME Commander does, but it's not as flexible as PowerDesk. Any suggestions?

It is simple, fast, looks great (plain) has the bells and whistles if you want, but doesn't make them a requirement.Best file manager over all platforms, bar none.after that probably the command line interface. It is an eye opener once you realize that your environment IS the file manager. You aren't stopped by anything, and you don't have to use the mouse to move stuff around. Simple, easy to use, classic. Bash would be my second. I dislike Nautilus and Dolphin, though Nautilus has become closer to Thunar in the 2.26.3 release. Dolphin just seemed too.. Konqueror-esqe.
