Microsoft Security Essentials - are they worth it?
Thank you for your reply, Mr. Kassner, and your link to MS Security Essentials. I wanted to mention that I have yet to hear anything positive about the IP software MS releases to police its own. Windows Firewall as well has been dismissed as actually inviting hacker attacks by folks I know who are PC techies, and have multiple PC's on which they try and test various app's and operating systems. So I was surprised when you listed anything by MS among the IP software you mentioned. Has MS really improved that much in just the last 1 to 2 years? Also, can you propose any additional, free IP app's that are worth downloading? I ran the new Ad-Aware 8.1 last night, and after taking over an hour to finish scanning, it found 4 TAI=3 files - period. There MUST be better free app's out there. How about EMSI's free a-squared v4.5? Since my McAfee firewall seems to be doing a good job, I wouldn't download the version that includes a firewall. If in the future, I don't have the complementary McAfee suite from Comcast, I would be very interested in hearing about a-squared's firewall capabilities, and how it stacks up against McAfee's firewall and others. Maybe you could talk about these things now? Thanks again.
