When I was there on business, it took a Saturday and Sunday for me to browse everything intimately by the time I included outdoor exhibits and the various Air Force One exhibits. Very awesome WWII exhibit, which is my area of interest. It was also way cool to reach across the barrier and actually touch an SR-71 Blackbird.http://www.nationalmuseum.af.mil/

Responses go like this: paramedic, fireman, police officer, factory worker, various other "manly" jobs, network administrator..."What? You're a computer geek?" It's like I they're shocked I'm there or something.
I'd go with a vacation that hits an assortment of museums, national parks/monuments and tech oriented landmarks.I'd start regionally and branch from there. The Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame in Seattle would be one node. (With side trips to the Pacific Science Center and the Space Needle.)If Microsoft at Redmond has a visitor's center, I might stop there. Ditto Boeing in the Seattle area. The Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum at McMinnville, Oregon, home of the Spruce Goose, would be fun. So would other aviation museums.Mount Rainier National Park, Mount Saint Helens National Volcanic Monument, Crater Lake National Park and Newberry National Volcanic Monument would be on my list of spots to visit, mainly due to an interest in geology. Then I would consider a long side trip to the Royal Tyrrell Museum near Drumheller, Alberta, because of the dinosaur exhibits. The above list would keep me busy for at least a week.If I were heading toward the east coast, the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum, Kitty Hawk and Cape Canaveral would be on my must see list.Note that this is based on things I have thought of off the top of my head. If I did the research, I could probably come up with a couple of years worth of geek vacation nodes.

We intend to get through at least 10 solid hours. But as for YOUR vacation: I wish you luck. Who needs sleep/food/bathroom breaks/sunlight? That's what caffeine is for!

I've been looking for one for ever. I don't get Holidays even when I worked for a Boss. But I did regularly get several months Payment for supposed Time Off every couple of years and was told that this was to make up for not having holidays which I was required to take by Law. When I started working for myself in a supposed Semi Retirement I found that instead of working 100 Hours per week on a slow week I was now working a lot longer and I still had to do Paperwork. Difference now is I work Harder and still do not know what a Holiday is but now I don't get paid not to have them. Perhaps if I save up my Swag Requests I can get a Life from TR as SWAG. Sure as hell beats looking on E Bay every day. OH and Ed what you forgot was a Plan B just in case the TV, DVD breaks and you have some spare time where you can not watch Star Trek. You'll need one of those Computer Controlled Star Trek Chess Sets to pass the time till whatever broke can be fixed/replaced. Also don't forget to remember where you put the Remote as when something finishes there is nothing worse than needing to get up to press buttons. You'll also need spare Batteries for the Remote just in case the set in there go flat also. Col
