I have loaded Windows 7 (32 bit) on a Sony Viao desktop formaly a Windows XP Pro Media Center Edition and attempted to crash, distroy, corrupt Windows 7 in every way possible. Then did a restore. In only several minutes (approx 15) the operating system was back on track like nothing had ever happened.
I have now loaded the Windows 7 in an older Toshiba laptop originaly installed with Vista, which even with additional upgrades to the Ram was always extremely slow. The laptop now runs very smooth and much faster.
My recomendation is like many: Windows 7 is here to stay and I like it. Clearly the best operating system ever from Microsoft.
