Not every other OS out there has their web browser embedded so deep into the kernal (the CORE of the OS, below the GUI & API's) that the only difference between that OS's web browser and file manager is just the skin that you're looking at because they are the same at the core.True, some versions of Linux have GUI's where the file manager ~CAN~ double as a web browser (KDE's Konqueror, I'm looking at you), but that doesn't stop the system from playing nice with any alternative web browsers (such as Firefox) you download and install (unlike Windows NT 5.1/5.2, NT6 & NT 6.1 (aka: XP, Vista & 7) with Firefox 3).

To be honest, most private users I know don't even know there's an alternative to IE. A good many of them, in fact, just refer to IE as 'the Internet'.To most of them, discussions about alternate browsers are just so much noise, much the same as listening to car fanatics debate carburetor size or fuel injector capacity.

There are fundamental problems with Win OS, which has been I suppose regrettably has be introduced, integrated and embedded, namely Explorer. On the flipside however, there are numerous OS that also have pre-installed web browsers, most popular alternatives being Linux, Tiger OS, and we can extend this on to mobile devices, such as the iPad and iPhone... or how about the ever stringent Apple Marketplace?

... and probably never will, so there's no point in arguing with him. He belligerently seems to believe that the decisions about what goes into products belong in the hands of legislators, prosecutors, "anititrust" court judges, and others of the same bureaucratic mindset - rather than in the hands of the producers and the consumers (the marketplace). The sad thing is that he thinks he is 'on the side of the people', when in actuality his sentiments merely aid in the eventual expanse of governmental power and add uncertainty and the expense that go with it to the producers' side of the marketplace, the expense which ultimately gets passed on to "the average users" in the form of higher prices.A marketplace is simple. A product is offered for sale. People are free to either buy the product as offered or not. Either side can attempt negotiation, but neither side has a right to *demand* what they want from the other. That's all "antitrust" court cases are - force-backed demands.

Why would you search for something you don't even know exists? The vast majority of average users not only have no idea they have alternatives to the Windows hegemony on their PC, they think that browser and internet are interchangeable terms. I can't tell you how many times I've had users ask "Why doesn't my internet work?" when the problem is that IE either won't open or is acting differently from what they are used to. And many of these people will tell you, dead serious, "That's not the internet!" if you present them with anything other than Internet Exploder in its default configuration. No condemnatory words in your post, but in context as a whole...etu

sold as a basic product and one that's sold as a luxury with lots of extras. How would you feel if your car purchase is listed as a a basic car but it's only available with the 650 watt stereo, sun roof, GPS, CB radio, tow bar, bull bar, string of driving lights, and seven foot trailer attached - when you only want a basic car but the car company has decided, in their own wisdom, that you need the lot and they love the extra profits they get from selling the big package.Put simply, Microsoft is NOT offering an features, they are pre bundling applications into the operating system package to edge other software companies of those applications out of the market. They also up the price and their profit at the same time. And you seem to think this is a fit and proper way to do things. US federal attorneys and law courts have decided such behaviour is not correct and fined MS heavily, plus the huge legal fees of the defence lawyers over the decade of the law suits. European Union law courts have done the same. The actions of MS is taking this improper behaviour have also added to the cost of the current versions of Windows as they've recovered those costs by building all those legal costs into the latest version.I don't buy MS or Windows. I also try to educate people as most people are NOT aware that there are alternatives to Windows and MS applications, due to the MS predatory marketing actions.
