FF user, but...
First thing, before I connect a new box to the interwebby thingy, I copy across the last downloaded zipfiles of ZoneAlarm , AVG, SpyWareBlaster and several other protectory thingys and install them all. Then I update any that need it. I keep the last downloaded version on an external hardrive just for that purpose. Not that I swap boxes very often, but I figure it's better to be protected *before* you open the chicken coop door and let the foxes in. I also copy across the last downloaded copy of Office and a couple of other nice-to-have things. Two of which are FF & T'bird and all their settings and profiles.
*Then* I might think about opening my window onto the big bad world out there.
Hey, its scary on the net and it's so easy to become roadkill. And once you have, it's difficult to get all secure again.
The original blogger sounds wise and wonderful, but he's actually kind of a twit. and a pretentious showoff. Taking his advice is *dangerous*. Especially considering he didn't even mention setting the MSWindows firewall to "on". Or, rather, making *sure* it is on by default. It should be on a new box, but that's a really good thing to check before attaching all that vicious, slavering, ravening malware to your delicate little new PC.
Note : none of my choices are recommended by me. They are just the ones I like and have used for a while and am comfortable with. There are others. Some are very good, and some are Norton.
