Hasn't anyone heard of PandaCloud?
Our fixation with all these applications that need to be updated daily (some will update 2 or 3 times a day) to maintain increasingly unwieldy databases that grow with every update like a sci-fi monster, and yet still require a full scan on a regular basis - not finished but I hope I?ve made my point - is totally incredulous.
My startup position in IT was as an IBM 360 operator for an IBM Computing Center that regularly gave tours of our facility. What amazed me was that no one ever asked me how the computer worked - they were too mesmerized by the blinking lights, rotating tape reels, and the reams of folding perforated printouts that streamed out of a very noisy impact printer! Then we upgraded to a 4300 with no blinking lights, replaced the tape drives with hard disk drives and finally - "Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned!" ? tried going paperless. "Look, Ma, no visitors!" It was like we didn't DO anything anymore.
Updates? PandaCloud doesn't need them. Resource footprint? Almost imperceptible. "So then does it actually DO anything" you'll ask ... wondering why I'm laughing my head off?!
