Apple tablet & business functionality
It seems to me that if there is an Apple tablet pc and if it is going to be successful, it would need to have that something extra that successful Apple products have had in the past. So let me float this by people: for a business user, how easy would it be to use a tablet pc and a phone at the same time? How easy will it be to do email, spreadsheets and word-processing?
After seeing tablet PCs being used in the medical field: Nobody likes the virtual, on-screen keyboard because it is slow to use, most people today don't like to go back to the hunt-and-peck of unskilled typing. So what's left is either voice-recognition or stylus and hand-writing recognition (or finger-tip writing recognition?). Both have their drawbacks and advantages. Voice-recognition works poorly in noisy environments and people sooner or later lose that stylus.
There would have to be some improvement somewhere with handwriting recognition and/or voice recognition to make it useful outside of restricted contexts such as hospitals and clinics.
And since the phone is still an important business tool, it seems to me that an IPhone with a 10-inch screen (or larger) and the ability to run regular PC apps such as Word and Excel and having improved hand-writing recognition would be a killer device in the business world. But would it require a stylus or would you just use your finger tip for hand-writing?
Just thinking out loud.
