Great suggestions for free open source apps.

Many of these are available as portable apps. I love portable apps primarily because they do not contribute to Windows bloat (they do not write to the windows registry or scatter clutter around your hard disk). Just (unzip and) run the exe.

Moreover, as the word portable suggests, I can take them with me on a USB disk if needed.
