Mmmmmmm! I live in western Canada where most homes have basements and it is much warmer to stay in the basement than on the main floor in the house especially in the Winter. It is also much more cooler in the Summer. People tend to stay in their basement all year round. I have a Apple MacMini on OXS and a Dell laptop on Window Vista up-stair. I have 3 machines down-stair, 2 running LinuxMints 8, and one on Windows 7 with Ubuntu 9.10. My wife uses the MacMini and my College kid son uses the Windows Vista laptop up-stair. I'm the only one down-stair who use LinuxMint 8 and Ubuntu 9.10 most of the time. The only time I use my Windows 7 is whenever I need it. Basement dweller, eh? I love it. Like OdyG said, " Don't forget, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Woz, Hewlett and Packard were "garage dwellers. It seems to me they did OK. " Any problem?
