How long will I spend trying to remove malware.
Depends on how close the person is to me and how important the files are. If my father got a virus and needed important files retrieved I would spend whatever time was needed on the task. However, if it is work equipment I will make an effort to get any personal files off out of empathy for the user. Policy states that all files should be saved to a network location so that they can be backed up. If users can't take the time/responsibility to follow policy then the files being lost should serve as a lesson. If a virus or severe malware infects a machine, then I will always do a re-format or re-image as it is simply not a good idea or practice to have a potentially compromised machine on the network.
