Bread and butter turns stale and rancid
I'm a one-guy shop, and this is my problem too. I was charging $100/machine for removal, just found out Best Buy is charging twice that now. Its been six months since these were worth doing. Eight out of ten are ridiculous. I now usually make an image backup with PMagic (free liveCD) to save my butt if irreversible damage happens on removal.
I then pull the hard-drive and mount on another PC, and run the scans from there. Rootkits and what-not can't hide when you're not running from the infected HDD.
You in-house IT guys have got it easy, your clients call you right away. Mine wait weeks hoping it will 'go away', and they work on it themselves, installing more trojans along the way. I've run in to so many non-name A/V tools (not trojans, they just stink) in the last four months.
Bill's video is six months out of date in my book.
I've done clean-outs where I run MBAM, kill 25-50 items. Run SAS, kill another 10-20. AND There are still root kits on there, combo-fix is scary. Can't remember if I've used GMER, I've got it on the machine.
