Step 11: Create an Innovation Bureaucracy
Sorry to make the top post a critical one -- but I fail to see how creating innovation bureaucrats can do anything other than stifle innovation.
The first step in innovation is finding something that your enterprise is not doing well, and then identifying a way to do it better. This is why innovation is inherently threatening. The threat is felt the most by the uncreative and unimaginative, by the careerist, and by the time-serving bureaucrat -- exactly the sort of people you'd expect to gravitate towards an Innovation Bureau that lets them fill their hours creating bumf.
The first step in achieving growth through innovation is unleashing the power of internal dissent. The second step is to focus it.
