I feel as if there are people from two different worlds talking to one another here.

In one world, let's call it "Murphy's World", things go wrong all the time. People expect that, and even plan for it. They have to deal with failures, and their job is in part to minimize the costs and revise plans based on what they learn from "failures".

In another world (with which I have no personal experience) EVERYTHING goes according to plan - and at the first whiff of smoke, everyone gets the hell out of Dodge. No one learns much from experience, but their resumes look REALLY nice.
