Do you use a third-party application to do your software uninstalls?
I have been using Ccleaner because in our environment the admins have hid the add remove feature so instead of tracking it down every time we use ccleaner which we have installed on every machine.
I also routinely use ccleaner to uninstall, then use ccleaner's registry scan after it. What's important is that I've never had a bad registry experience with ccleaner, and I've probably used it on a thousand machines. I no longer even bother checking what registry entries it's fixing, except for curiosity. I'd be interested in hearing how people who use both revo and ccleaner compare the two.
Revo has been my uninstaller of choice for several years now. The only minor issue to be aware of is when the free version (1.85) is used in Advanced mode ensure deletion of ONLY components in bold!
I'm certainly not a techie, but I find the Revo Uninstaller excellent - I've been using it for a long time and have never had any problems. Before that I had loads of problems with the built-in Windows uninstaller - often programs were not even on its list.
Its certainly a great tool but, having said that, I can concur. I would never recommend the use of ANY registry-editing product without the technical guidance and supervision of someone with considerable experience.
I have one client who is a newbie, and picked up Revo very fast! I just gave him cursory warnings about the possible damage he might do; but he didn't have any critical data to protect, and the little he had, was backed up.
He got pretty good at it, but knew he'd eventually have to do a total reinstall, with the way he was playing around.
It took a while, but he finally re-imaged his PC, and now he knows what not to do.
He knows more than I do what you can get away with. I always use CCleaner, and am very cautious; but now I know Revo can be counted on in a pinch situation. Common sense can keep disaster at bay long enough to do good backups and drive on. The next installation should go for quite a while!
Personally I have never used it except for observation with remote desktop. It seems to really work well. I've never had to re-image my XP machines, but I'm tired of having to re-image my Vista. Next time I'm using Revo, because you just can't trust some third party installer/uninstallers, let alone Windows.
I hope they get a x64 version soon!

Revo is one of the best uninstaller software that i've ever seen the speciality of this software is that it has an option where you can also delete the traces of any particular software or applications in the registry. This makes that the software or application is uninstalled completely.. all you have to do is just install the software which can be found in google. you need the select the application which you wanna uninstall ; you need to scan the application so that it will pull out all the registry traces of that particular application which can deleted by just clicking select all and delete.

Revo Uninstaller Pro is compatible with the following operating systems:
Windows XP, Windows 2003, Windows Vista and Windows 7 Revo Uninstaller Pro has full native support of 64bit operating systems!
I use the Freeware Version on my Win 7 64bit operating systems with no problems.

For the uninstall to work is it necessary to have Revo during the installation process or could it be dowloaded after the software installation in order to do the uninstalling desired?
I am currently using this software and for me it is the best uninstaller i ever used so far.
Sometimes Add/Remove via Control Panel does not work. We still find old files and registry from a software or program that already uninstalled.
Revo uninstaller is good software. It remove all programs and clean all registry and delete all file that are related with uninstall program.

The way I uninstall an application from my window is go to control panel>add or remove features, then here are the list of application that already install in your windows, then select the application i.e. you want to remove from your windows and follow the instructions and the things run smoothly. But sometimes I got an error during the process of installation(uninstalling) like "missing" or "cannot find file" or something like that. How is that?
that happens when a program gets uninstalled but it left some junk, so it didnt uninstall 100%.. that happens a lot.. especially when the program creates folders everywhere...
Revo does a pretty good job about it..
but if you already used a different program then it's hard for revo to do it..
sometimes I use either regseeker or trash reg just so I can find where those broken links in the registry are.. it's a pain to keep your system clean..
Cheers

This usually happens when the original installation source is no longer available.
This can happen with choosing run when downloading a installation, when the temp folder is fully cleaned, or the install file is otherwise removed from the computer.
If you have the original installation, running it should give you the remove option.

32 bit only for the free version according to their website.
You failed to mention that there's a portable version of this product that can be executed from an external device, such as a flash drive. It's definitely a "must-have" for any PC 'toolbox'.
When using this product, delete leftover items with care, as apps will often integrate themselves with other apps and even the OS. For example, the first time I used Revo Uninstaller to uninstall Diskeeper, I carelessly allowed it to delete the entire contents of the System Tools folder from the Start menu.
.. and, besides, it was my own computer. The biggest mistake any techie can make is to trust any technology implicitly, 'testing' it out on a client's equipment.
A very good uninstaller but, another area to watch in XP is; C:\Program Files\Common Files
Like you, I've learned the hard way to look at everything closely before deleting.

I have used it for years and never broken anything using the moderate mode.
I recently purchased the Pro version which seems to have improved capabilities. I found I had to be more careful when approving what to remove.

I have been using Revo Uninstaller for a number of years, but have never tried Hunter Mode before. Just tried it - the app minimized to the tray as per the article, but I didn't get any special "gun" cursor. All it seems to have done is minimize the program. I tried using the existing cursor in a number of ways, but it was just a normal cursor. The Help page wasn't much help. What am I doing wrong?
I have used Revo for some time now and hve discovered that it almost never gets rid of all registry entries.
Last week I used it to remove Spybot S&D. After it had used the program's uninstall, it found a further 8 registry entries. Ccleaner found another 2. Using JV16 registry search I found a further 297 entries, which I carefully inspected, backed up and removed.
All fine so far.It was the same with removing Quicktime, I found about another 250 entries.
So don't think that it will take out everything.

I find it extremely hard to believe that the many hundreds of leftover items you say JV16 found could possibly have ALL been associated with those two applications that you removed using both Revo Uninstaller and CCleaner. You would have had to perform the JV16 scan both BEFORE and AFTER any other operations to make such a determination.
A lot of sources will allow you to scan your computer then tell you have 16 gizzillion problem and will only fix them if you buy the Pro. version. I agree with Mr. Fix it seems like a we want to sell you something.
I need to down load Revo since I'm only using CCleaner.

I do not have a trial version of JV16 and bought this in 2007. It is a very good program and can carry out a large number of tasks.
I have been using it to clean up quite a number of uninstalls, among other tasks.
Sometimes it finds nothing left behind in the registry, more often it will find about 5 to 10 entries.
Regarding my method of use; for my last Spybot uninstall I typed spybot into the search engine and found all the registry entries with that in the path,I checked each one, then backed them up and removed them. I keep the backups for 3 months and delete them. I have had no trouble with this method and never had to restore the backups.
The worst programs that have left debris behind have been Spybot, Realplayer, Quicktime and Nero.

Macecraft is an industrial wide recognized utility. It is as good as gold.
But I use CCleaner, and would like to try Revo, as soon as a x64 verion is available.

will Revo work oover a Domain, or is it purley a stand alone pc software..
I was told from other forums that after uninstall of apps, it is common that some stuffs are left in c:\windows\winsxs\ as this folder gets larger and largerwith time after numerous installation. Can Revo also prevent this folder from getting larger and larger as well?
Does Revo Uninstaller work from command line, to enable me to uninstall from a remote machines silently?
Cheers
