IE Tab? RIP
iansavell 28th Apr 2010
IE Tab is no longer available for FF3.6 onwards. There's a lot of controversy over which replacement to use. I've been using Coral IE Tab and haven't had any issues that I know of, but understand that others with different setups may be having nightmares. One of the drawbacks of open source development.

My other add-ons: noscript, download statusbar, tab renamizer.

Coral IE Tab
mckinnej 28th Apr 2010
I switched to this one as well and it works fine. Haven't noticed the long delay some folks have mentioned in IE Tab 2.
I use Corel IE Tab on both my work and home computer and it works just fine for me. They have made it even better recently by allowing cookies and such to be used in the IE tab as well.

I've been using Coral IE Tab since Firefox 3.x

IETab has had a hard time getting upgrades out to match Firefox upgrades. A while ago posts on its download site implied, to me at least, that this was because its owners had abandoned it. Evidently this is not the case, or it has new owners.

No matter. Coral IE upgrades match Firefox's, and I've been very pleased with it.

Even better, it respects my AdBlock Plus settings, with IETab didn't. Maybe IETab 2 does this now as well, dunno, don't care.
hey, I know this comment was from a while ago but I'm wondering if you still use Coral IE? I used to use chrome but now I'm a webmaster (my site is Train Horns) and I find it's not webmaster friendly so I've gone back to FF. I've been looking for good extensions and that's how I found this post. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
I use:
Photobucket Uploader
HTML Validator
Multiproxy switch (great for schools)
Javascript Debugger
All-In-One Gestures
Tab SideBar
FireFTP
Download Statusbar
X-Ray
I have a few I just have to have ....

1. XMARKS - Bookmark sync. You can create separate profiles, like Home and Work and set which bookmarks you want in each profile. I have also used this add on when resetting up pc's for people. I install XMARKS and Firefox if they don't have before I wipe their current system. Perform a sync. Now I'm set for when I complete the new set up.

2. IE Tab 2 - IE Tabs no longer works with newer versions of Firefox and their are alot of IE Tab type add ons that do not work. This one does.

3. STUMBLEUPON - Awesome for when you have nothing better to do!

4. WEATHERBUG - Best weather app I've found.

5. WINDFOX - Gives live wind speeds for your area.

6. FIREFTP - Very nice and easy to use!

7. COOLPREVIEWS - Lets you preview a webpage just by hovering a link.

These are my must haves. There are others I use, but this is a great essential starting for me.

btw ... I have been messing a bit with Google Chrome. I am really impressed with what they did with it. Super fast and now you can get many of these extensions with it!
Problem with Firefox

Firefox has certain advantages over Internet explorer and Firefox was my prefered browser. This is no longer the case, because I can no longer print with firefox. The printer starts and print a blank sheet. The online help and FAQ are useless.
The only advice they give is to verify that the printer is part of the configuration file. Of course it is and the printer responds to the command but print a blank sheet.
I would welcome some help from Firefox. An email address or a reply to this email or a phone number..

Thank you

These plugins I rely on too much. I did not upgrade to 3.5 until these plug ins were available for that version. Tab mix Plus should be the way FF works out of the box, IMO.
Monkeysphere doesn't appear to be a simple download and install. Also there does not appear to be a version available for the Mac.

Along with several of those already mentioned, add Download Status Bar to replace that native screen hog with a small status window in the status bar.

And I do use both SiteAdvisor and WOT. Interesting to see the occasional times where they do not agree on whether or not you can trust a web site.

a good zoom feature is needed. I used to use Glazoom, but it is obsolete now; am trying to find an alternative. Trying Default Zoom for now.

which allows you to zoom the text and images together, or text only. I like that it allows me to set the zoom increments too.

I'll try that!

NoSquint not only lets you zoom text with or without graphics, it also lets you make the settings permanent for each site individually. I keep TechRep at 110% Text!

I got a 61" monitor, and with the 16:9 screen real estate, everything looks tiny!

Good thing both FireFox and IE 8 are becoming more HDTV friendly! These add-ons really help!

I keep TR at 150%
Here's my set..

Bookmark This Page Plus
-- allows you to bookmark straight to a sub-menu. The add-on I use most!

Echofon
-- Twitter reader/poster

Firebug
-- web dev essential tool

FireFTP
-- Great GUI FTP client

NoScript
-- Essential security add-on, especially since I don't use AV software

Save Complete
-- saves a complete webpage correctly

Web Developer
-- adds various web dev tools

Xmarks
-- Bookmark backup/sync across multiple PCs

Zotero
-- Great academic reference generator/manager

I have a few others installed, but don't really use them.

Clip to OneNote
PCW 28th Apr 2010
I use many of the add-ons previously mentioned but here is one not mentioned. I live in OneNote, file everything there, correspondence, contract details, Pictures the works. "Clip to OneNote" needs to be force installed but has not failed me yet, even with Office 2010. It will copy, with all formatting, any selection on a page or the whole page and copy to the unfiled notes section.
There are others such as screen clip or print to OneNote but they send an image and not HTML.
I've used Web Developer for a while now, and like it. I've assumed that Firebug just duplicates it.

What is the advantage of running both?

PS. I tried watching the video but it uses formats not supported by Win Media Player. I refuse to download other players, each one of which is a potential malware vector.
Zotero is one I can't live without. It's the best reference manager I've ever used, and it's open unlike all the others.
My extensions are

Download Status Bar
Firebug
WOT
Cool Previews
HTML Validator
FireFTP
1-Click Weather
My favorite is Adblock Plus. Pages load much faster, you don't get the extra junk (unless you want it), and it is easy to configure. Who could want more in an extension!

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it already, but Adblock Plus is my extension of choice when navigating web pages. Not only does it filter out iframes and flash, but you can filter by wildcards so if you get hung up on a page waiting for an ad to load from a third party domain, you can block it.
tab junkie here and limited to sat connection at home. This has made me a fan of BarTab. When I open FF my last session opens but only the last viewed tab loads, until I select another. Mouse over shows contents of tab, now I usually have a dozen tabs upon opening FF and no problems with speed. Of all the others my next favorite is xmarks. Mulit pc, mulit boot addict too and all my bookmarks are there when I need them.

Thanks justagallopin,

May look into X-Marks - I missed the article that mentioned it.
Thanks for BarTab as well - not sure if I will check that out.

Thanks for posting your helpful thoughts and experiences.

Thank You!

XMarks
mohamedgohary@... 29th Apr 2010
XMarks, previously known as FoxMarks is an amazing tool to keep your bookmarks with you anyway you go and make them portable. I always invest heavily in my bookmarks and I tend to take backups of them from time to time and XMarks saved my life.
NoScript
FlashBlock
AdBlock Plus
FlagFox
FormFox
Better Privacy

that's my list

Enough with the Toolbars! Virtually everything you install nowadays tries to sneak in a toolbar. They're almost as bad as malware.

You may be interested in "Encryption Wizard", available here: http://spi.dod.mil/ewizardaddon.htm

It is a plugin for FF which will automatically encrypt files that you upload or download with AES128.

Disclaimer: It's from the US DoD (although the actual encryption library is commercial)
