Nice idea but
If you trawl a lot of the Linux newsgroups you will find most of the devs don't actually want Linux to become mainstream 'cos it would dent their feelings of geeky specialness. The command line is the primary weapon for keeping the masses at arms length.
Let's face it, if there was a genuine desire to make Linux mainstream then the command line would be like it is in Windows, useful when you know what you're doing, but not necessary. Until this state of affairs comes to be, then Windoze dominance will remain absolute
