LINUX Newbies - Training and Administration
LINUX Newbies need easy UI and Training
I see two issues from Jack's article:
(1.) incomplete training/support
(2.) insufficient planning/administration
Similar issues can arise on any system. Many users feared computers years ago when command line prompts prevailed. Yet I taught them just the basic steps to help them use it, and also demonstrated the benefits to help them do their job.
GUI helped immensely to initiate and perform certain tasks. But I still had to make some things very clear (i.e. when you see such a message, call us; if the screen blanks, press this to see if it helps).
The more users learn and understand, the more comfortable they become. Letting them experience the benefits encourages them.
But also preparation and administration lead to successful implementations.
Standard Systems Analysis / Design can diminish issues.
Know what the users do and acknowledge their needs.
Match this with available resources (i.e. LINUX apps.).
Regularly maintain the system to ensure stability and performance.
(I had to monitor MySQL log files and temporary files weekly on a previous assignment because they would fill up the /var and /etc volumes.)
When the system runs well and helps them, then users most always will embrace it.
