I'm a rather conservative browser, anymore.
I was hit with something here at home from drive-by malware. It CAN happen to anyone and ignorance of that fact says a lot.
Not a flame. Just fact.
Since I was at home on my desktop and not away from home on a business trip with a laptop my solution was easy. Backup all of the documents since my last weekly image, restore my image and documents and keep on doing what I was doing, except for visiting that website again. I'd picked up my malware from following a link at Google.
McAfee Site Advisor said it was a good site, all indications showed it was a good site but I've since found out that good sites, with security holes, can have bad code injected into them that'll nail you when you visit.
If it hasn't happened to you it's not because of your superior security and browsing skills it just means you've been lucky.
Do you create images? Our weekly images help us occasionally. When I got hit it took me 15-20 minutes to get me back to a clean PC with all of my documents. If you don't create regular images and backups you're foolish. I can be back to a system that has 149 programs, over 300GB of music and tons of important documents faster than you can load a basic copy of Windows.
If you do have recent backup images. more power to you. I would think, though, that you could realize that getting smacked down on a laptop while on the road might mean that there isn't any imaging software and a recent image. Knowing what to do in that case is important. Scoffing at someone who accidentally picked up malware tells a lot about you because it happens to everyone who spends any time at all browsing the Internet.
