put the danged dvd n the drive, KDE and GNOME both with open a dialog asking if you want to play it with [ list of installed media players ]
or rip dvd audio
rip dvd video
open to browse files
or copy dvd with [ installed cd/dvd burning tool ]

no need to go through all the above complicated steps.
