Most Windows Mobile Devices are shipping today with 6.5- most of these listed don't support 6.5 (Norton and McAfee don't support 6.5 and don't have a timeline for it either). I am doing a Beta with Kaspersky on my personal PDA, 2 weeks- so far so good. Gotta wonder when the other A/V vendors will catch up with the device Market and support the more current OS.
I use my Nokia E72 only for email, IM (Nimbuzz), Google Maps / GPS, as a 3G modem for a laptop, camera, a little occasional news browsing... nothing that would ever let any virus get close. I don't really see any need to spend money on this.
...it's not possible for a virus to be spread via e-mail or network connections so you should be completely safe.
Seriously?!? I'm not up to date with mobile handset virii but I would imagine that plugging into a laptop via USB could transfer an infection.
Basically, with a 3G connection, your phone is connected directly to the Internet (probably behind NAT or whatever unless you have a special arrangement with the carrier for VPN). If there's no current exploits for mobile browsers it's probably only a matter of time before someone embeds malicious code onto websites.

How come the article doesn't mention any free antivirus tools? Avast, AVG, and Lookout are freely available for the Android OS.

market share.
Nice review, but I think the list is not complete.
For example, I am missing Avast. Lookout and AVG.
