they still make sense now
Not really for storing vast amount of data but diskettes still work great as a boot partition.
Reinstall Windows and it'll format your mbr but not the diskette so your bootloader (assuming dualboot) remains untouched.
Bootloader is having issues, pop out the diskette and let the mbr bring up an OS while you fix the issue.
Want to keep folks out of your second boot, pop out the disk and now it's a single boot with hidden partitions (assuming they are not computer folk).
Backup your boot loader by keeping a .bin image and/or duplicate diskettes.
I'm actually a little sad to see the end of life date for floppy production. I'll have to dedicate the smallest flashdrive I can find to being my new boot partition media.
