I remember, in 1985, that a lightning landed on a field 100 yards from our motel.
The electric power discharged from that lightning found its way up to fry the mainboard of our telephone switchboard (one card).
A lightining can strike a single unit without even touching the nearby outlets.
Our switchborad was protected by electrical toward the ground, but without hope if a lightning has decided to behave in a certain way.
