Rather than manually creating a spread sheet which is inherently error prone I prefer to use the filtering features of MS project. Keep the activities in the plan and use the filtering functions function to give you the view you need at any time. In MS project you can filter on any attribute of tasks so it?s easy to see what tasks are due by a particular date, what tasks rely on a named resource etc.
If there is a particular set of attribute you want to use which don?t exist you can use ?spare? fields to hold these. I commonly use a text field to mark milestone criticality, Internal to team, project board/programme board. I?ve also used a field to identify Workstream or project stage as well.
If you need to extract the view to a spreadsheet or document that?s fairly simple too and if you find yourself using the same view day after day you can save the view.
