My experience with FF crashing under Vista went away after upgrading to Win7. Also have a couple other machines with Win XP Pro that have no problems with the latest version of Firefox. Take it for what it's worth. Several of my customers have the exact same issues with Vista and I'm trying to convince them to go one way or the other. The OS is inherently flawed just like Windows ME was way back when. :-/
