So aside from preconfigured workstations and support, what more does the Cisco/Citrix desktop virtualization offer that's not already available?
Plain old Terminal Server (RDP), XWindows, etc. already provide virtual desktop / thin client functionality.
Discussion on:
Citrix XenDesktop certainly has some important features. However there are lower cost alternatives out there, like Ericom Software's PowerTerm WebConnect. WebConnect is a VDI connection broker with support for over a dozen hypervisors, for maximum flexibility and cost savings (by allowing the organizations to select the lowest cost hypervisor that meets their needs).
In addition, PowerTerm WebConnect allows organizations to combine VDI and Terminal Server and manage those users with one product. If you want to combine VDI and Terminal Server with Citrix, you need two separate products and licenses.
