Same reason we don't have the flying car
NickNielsen 4th Oct 2010
It's bad enough on the highway, with just two dimensions. I don't even want to think what some of these bliviots* might do given the chance to also move in the Z axis.

Here's a link to an article about the development of a commercial jetpack. What on earth has taken them so long???

http://shopping.yahoo.com/articles/yshoppingarticles/436/martin-aircrafts-commercial-jetpack-looks-to-take-flight/

I like that it's from the Yahoo shopping site grin

I can see it now strapping the First Commercial Jet Pack onto a Polly with the Safety Features removed and telling them that it's Easy to use just squeeze that thing there.

Probably an even better way to get rid of Pollies than my current Hunt & Mount a Polly a Day Sport and better they'll be doing it to themselves standing in line to kill themselves. grin

Maybe it will not be such a great idea as you will not get that Warm Fuzzy Feeling in your Guts as you waste yet another Polly and take that one step closer to Extension of all Politicians. After all not even the Darliks wanted to get their enemies to destroy themselves they needed that one distraction to make their lives bearable. wink

Oh
GSG 4th Oct 2010
I was thinking it was a parrot. But, now that I know it's a politician, I realize that I wasn't far wrong when I thought it was a parrot. It was just an insult to the parrot's intelligence.

Yep.

It is like "to parrot", in the dismissive sense. Which is, yes, an insult to parrots.
Bet the liability on one of those is pretty high.

Well,
DMambo 4th Oct 2010
"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale;
A tale of a fateful trip,
That started from a tropic port
Aboard this tiny ship"

"The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day
For a 3-hour tour. A 3-hour tour"

...

Do I need to go on? (This is from memory, no web search was involved!)

Hope that helps.

Than I am crazy. It runs in my family. If so, I am a functional crazy..so there is that.

And compared to my co-workers, I'm normal. Because the lot of them are just batshiat crazy.

The flying car or the jetpack?

I mean as far as the average consumer, i.e. - average folks like us.

Neither...
JamesRL 4th Oct 2010
There are significant hurdles facing both of them.

Those of you who know the history of the automobile may recall the horrendous rate of automobile deaths back in the days when you didn't need a license to drive and there weren't many speed limits.

Can you imagine even a small fraction, say 1000 users of either technology over say, Manhattan at quitting time? Who has right of way? How do they avoid commericial traffic?Who tells them they are grounded by the weather? Who is going to insure them against damage they might cause to a skyscraper? Where will they land? Who will set up standards for training? How do you conduct a road test?

Given the amount of training required, I'd see jetpacks in the military long before I'd see them in civilian hands. Even then, I'd think there is a long way to go in efficiency before they have a practical range. A drone is cheaper because it doesn't have to haul a human, and the fuel needed to keep the human's weight airborne.

Absolutely...
AnsuGisalas 4th Oct 2010
No need for a jetpack in the military.
Unless they're any good for high-altitude insertion, but even then they're a good deal too expensive to compete with the good old parachute.

It's just a joke

"make it to work in record time'

That gives it away right there! Who in their right mind would actually go to work if they owned a jetpack? The "Friendly Skies" slogan would disappear real quick that's for damn sure!
Get the f*** out of my WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!! Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

The only time I'd be near work is to pinch a loaf on the roof like a big, smelly bird from 1000 feet!

"Bombs awaaaay! Hey boss did you get my email about being sick today...and tomorrow and...well, I'll show up again around payday anyway."

Jetpack to work, my arse!
