Always install anything new using the Custom installation option only. A lot of software carries junk along with it unless you choose not to install it.

Also, watch out when updating Flash or similar apps that install directly from a web app that you uncheck any of those little boxes for add-ons that are there. They try to make them inconspicuous so you have to stay alert.
