Not as popular for farmers as potatoes, but growing in popularity.
Since they store well, I usually only see Ontario yams at our supermarket, except for these Jamaican purple sweeties. I tried them and my wife preferred the local so thats what we use.
Edited to add: We had sweet potatoes for our Thanksgiving a couple of weeks back, while we were camping. We used the bacon grease, left over bacon cut up into small shreds, and maple syrup to add some flavour.
