I use Sun's VirtualBox to emulate Ubuntu Linux under Windows XP.

I don't know what the author is referring to when he overloads the term, "virtual machine". PC Magazine has this definition:

While comprehensive, it doesn't quite describe which type of virtual machine the author may be talking about. Could someone, possible the author clear up this ambiguity, please?
