It was designed so non-programmers could automate simple tasks within an application.

Guys or girls who can make it sit up and beg deserve some respect, doesn't make it a good language though. Not by a longshot.

One of the hardest things I've ever done was code in VB6, I had to unlearn so many habits that have stood me in good stead in unmanaged statically typed environments, it was untrue. The soul detroying bit was, after all that effort, the result was still well below what I'd call acceptable.
Slow, inelegant and poorly optimised, I could work round, inconsistent syntax and semantics, that's just poor.
