The receptionists babysitters younger brother is already working on the problem is the mindset. The classes, suits, hardware, and software, still cost us the same, we just can't buy them.I can go on Craigslist, and the average job for anything IT related is $15 per hour.

I thought this was a joke till I read the whole article.Fair do's If you can command that kind of work ethic and total respect to you if this is genuine, Purely because you Invest in yourself In the hundreds of thousands. I'm envious. But back in the real world of mass loss of jobs, mass University educated log term unemployed, We just can't command that kind of work/lifestyle, And all my friends who do work in the I.T industry have never told me that they spend hundreds of thousands on educating themselves with tens of thousands on software. They do educate themselves yearly with say ?1000 course here and there, and keep up with current software's for there companies needs, but the extreme over the top self Indulgence is like something off a sitcom. Now If you would have said you did this for your employees, now that would have been a bit more believable and realistic. You get my praise if you are genuine and make and command that kinda money.I would say I was jealous, but get rid of the Filofax and pen lark and the leather bound ipad, now that's over the top hilarious.

Like most of my colleagues I have a mortgage , bills, children etc etc that swallow up my salary. All that glitters is not gold !!

I have to be honest here... but I don't quite know who you are directing your advice to when you are talking about having personally spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on training. Are you talking to executive consultants who are the CEOs of their own large companies, or are you talking to Fred the Unix Administrator who makes around $60-80k per year? You use a press kit instead of a resume, are you a musician or artist of some type because those are the only people I know who use 'press kits'.Frankly, and I don't mean any disrespect, but your article comes off as a little egotistical. Especially item #3.

I'm not sure that rule applies to the single expense of "standing out" -- perhaps to all expenditures that increase one's "capital" (i.e., that improve the ability of your business to make money).
