I voted that this move by Canonical will have a minor success in the business market. Ubuntu still has a long battle ahead to be a major force in that market. As a whole hearted free source supporter who uses Linux but is not a geek I still see Ubuntu as an OS run by gifted amateurs. Linus Torvalds always want Ubuntu to be free. Is it time to change that just as they will change to Unity from the long standing Gnome next April. To have an OS dedicated to using open source but 'employing' top developers etc an highly attractive salary then I believe they will then have a major success in the business market.

that I might find out what johan sees as the application for Ubuntu in particular on the (highly variegated) zSeries platform(s). I assume it is from the Ubuntu perspective of market share, so I'm wondering what johan thinks Canonical should do to make Ubuntu "zSeries-ready", for lack of a better term, aside from porting it to Power architecture (just my guess) as well as x86.I'm not particularly a fan of Ubuntu, but I found the thought interesting.

Canonical does not currently support anything but x86 architecture, it is true. However, Debian does support other architectures, including Power, so Ubuntu may install or compile correctly, and z does include x86 platforms anyway. Ubuntu does have server & cloud ready versions. It is a rather narrow focus, though: One vendor's mainframe/server solution. Which does support Linux well. Not sure about Ubuntu, but the *nixes do seem to scale nicely. Basically, I think Ubuntu is not going to support other architectures again any time soon.
