The only reason for buying a 3DTV is that they make excellent HDTVs.
Apart from people not willing to fork out more money after a recent upgrade the 3D technology has major limitations. You need glasses and they onl y work from directly in front of the TV and in a brightly lit room. Lack of content and most of what is available is poorly implemented and/or not worth the premium you have to pay. The glasses are expensive and uncomfortable, especially for those whom already wear corrective lenses. Tiring on the eye and brain for extended use and physically makes a lot of people sick.
Motion blur is also an an issue as in 3D your nice 200Hz LCD panel becomes a 100Hz panel due to splitting the refresh rate to show the two images required for 3D. Plasma is the only successful performer in that area.
