If my memory is correct, this was the probe my brother was last working on as an Electrical Engineer before he took a brake and worked for Ball Aerospace on their Comet Impact probe. He then returned to Lockheed Martin and did work on the dual Mars Rovers that landed in 2004
Since the Viking 1 & two Mars surface landing probes of 1976, Martian Marietta (now Lockheed Martian) has filled may of the dreams of Astronomer Hubble.
They had dreams of returning America to the Moon, but Government fools canceled that dream so we could play Survivor Island by sending small landing teams to Mars.
My solution idea is remove space funding from 4 and 8 year voting cycles of death and make Space Exploration a non-taxable investment and return of profits program.
There has been many wonderful dreams and a few wastes of our money created and killed just to send power to local voting areas. That is the wrong way to direct humanity's future. Our future needs to become structured and organized with a destiny centuries not 4 to 8 election cycle funding drives.

This program named Constellation, first began it's life as the first President Bush (who followed Reagan) had desires of returning to the Moon. There was desires to keep going to the Moon with Apollo space ships up to Apollo 24. After the Nixon mess, President Ford devoted NASA on the near Earth program of the Space Shuttle, which has only two flights left at this time.
The Constellation Program was to have us return to the Moon 50 years after our first landing. From there we were to start colinizind the Moon. As we explored the Moon humanity would gain survival experience off the home world of Earth. Moon projects were as simple as collecting Helium 3 from the Moon's surface to power our fusion power plants, build rockets and spaceships to explore the solar system, and many more.
Not to expand on the politics of this choice to end the Lunar Colonization program. It can simple be said The NASA Constellation program had a Bush title to it (both #41 & #43) and not a O'bama title to is. I'm still waiting to hear solid steps on our destiny for Mars. As a side note the Moon project was mostly silent until 2004 when H.W. Bush reveled it's structure.
