I think I am going to just stop eating, or stop reading about food.

Let me get a burger to go, and hold the ammonia

My butcher tells me stories about what they do with meat that will keep me from going anywhere else for meat forever.
How else can fast food places make a profit? I mean, they have a dollar menu. What does anyone think they're getting for a dollar nowadays?
Ammonia in burgers is probably better than no ammonia. Think about that and also why the USDA thinks its fit for human consumption. Ugh. They're treating us like cattle.

I have lots of relatives in the cattle industry but they are mostly on the breeding side, trying to improve the stock.
There are decent oeprations who treat their cattle well, those places who raise premium cattle for high end beef. The other end of the market well....
Have you seen the movie "Temple Grandin"? if not, you should. Its about an autistic woman who overcomes and becomes an expert in animal behavior and improves conditions in stockyards, putting less stress on cattle which in turn creates better beef.

I thought it was bad pickles.
Glad I don't do fast food burgers any more...

a round "bread" cut in halves, with "meat" and "salad" put in between.
Taste a hamburger nowadays, and you'd be at a loss to say how it ever became popular.
An aside, when we went to Copenhagen we went into a Burger King (don't have those in Finland, only McD and the local Hesburger)... and it was so much better than those other two that it was as if these "burgers" had nothing in common, except maybe shape.
And that was mostly about the better salad.

"In Defense of Food" - Michael Pollan.
This is an excellent, readable and practical(-ish) book.
One exerpt from the introduction that says it all:
Food. There?s plenty of it around, and we all love to eat it. So why should anyone need to defend it?
Because most of what we?re consuming today is not food, and how we?re consuming it ? in the car, in front of the TV, and increasingly alone ? is not really eating. Instead of food, we?re consuming ?edible foodlike substances? ? no longer the products of nature but of food science. Many of them come packaged with health claims that should be our first clue they are anything but healthy. In the so-called Western diet, food has been replaced by nutrients, and common sense by confusion.

but had a burger for dinner anyway, lettuce tomato, onions and just a touch of ammonia, delicious.
Roast beast (a cheap, chewy, & fatty cut), boiled potatoes, broccoli, and [raw] carrots.
I enjoyed it.
Chili for supper tomorrow, adorned with fresh diced onions, oyster crackers and freshly shredded Cheddar.

It was for some sort of "gainomax" gym "product", saying: "What do you have in your Gym bag?" and "Bananas are for monkeys"...
Selling some sort of bogus candybar, telling people how it's "uncool" to use the natural(ish) alternative.
And turns out, plain old milk is a better recouperation beverage than any of those "special recouperation beverages" they sell, too; because that's just sugared water with bogus catchphrase additives.
Bulldung is for beetles, is what I say.
