At least, all the ones I've seen so far do---the ones that are sold for $100 or so for ripping your old records to MP3s will rip your records in more ways than one. The needle provided is huge and crude compared to even a cheap cartridge on a proper turntable. You'll get a decent playback of your record once, maybe twice... but then the record is ruined.
