Horrible Side Effect of This--Brain Drain
It is an employer's market but many will overplay their hand so much that when things finally turn around, there will be a mass exodus--yes, the much feared "brain drain".

I understand that some companies can't afford raises, but why do the incentives always have to be monetary? Why can't they just give everyone a couple of extra days of PTO instead of a paid raise? How about buying the office or department lunch or breakfast once a month? Something...
