I agree that a single charge is a great thing! European Commission is mandating all phones to be chargeable via MicroUSB in Europe in the next couple of years. On top of that, Nokia, Samsung, Apple (bye bye Apple docking connector?) and LG among others, agreed back in 2009 to standardize it as well, so I guess that the next generation of phones will be MicroUSB enabled (I haven't seen a new smartphone in the past few months that wouldn't be [besides Apple])..

I can't see investing in emulation or virtualization; the effort would be better spent on a smartphone-appropriate OS that truly integrates with Windows networks. However, I thoroughly applaud the notion of standardized charging interfaces. As a modern family with two adult children living at home, we have, of course, 4 different phones in the house and regular visits by friends and relatives. One of our phones is a Blackberry & 3 are LG, all using mini-USB for computer sync and charging, As it happens, many of the visitor phones also use the same format. It's a real godsend that any phone can be charged at existing outlets in our home, and all of our cars. Hopefully this standardization will spread, and none of us will have to carry charging cables and adapters wherever we go!

Given the increasing processing power of these tiny work horses, has anyone considered emulation or virtual environments that will allow another OS to operate in tandem with the native system. A computer with three or four GB, a 200 MHz CPU & 128 MB of RAM would comfortably run Windows 2000. Most phones hit well above these criteria. The other desirable would be that they can all be recharged through a standard mini-USB connector, to help avoid having to carry around a bag of cables, many times the size (and weight) of the phone!?
