I have been using WHS v-1 now in PP-3 for 3 years and am satisfied with v-1. I attempted to install Vail several months ago and was unable to even install it. I had the minimum requirements specified for installation, but it wanted something more. v-1 is doing well for me, I might want to look at 2011 after a couple of years when they will have the new product bugs worked out. Drive extender is not an issue with me and that feature will not affect my decision for or against installation. I would like to see a smoother file synchronization than is available in v-1. SyncToy just doesn't do it. Drop Box just doesn't do it.
